06/17/19 – Denali State Park, Alaskan Veteran Memorial, Hurricane Gulch Bridge

We had some visitors this morning in the parking lot.

You can click on pictures to enlarge them.
Denali State Park encompasses 324,420 acres and has four campgrounds, four viewpoints and five trailheads along the Parks Highway. We stopped at Denali Viewpoint South, but it was too cloudy to see the mountain tops.

The Alaska Veterans Memorial/POW-MIA Rest Area has concrete panels, plaques and informational panels honoring military veterans.

Hurricane Gulch Bridge – the 550-foot deck of the bridge is 260 feet above Hurricane Creek.  We stopped at a parking area at the north end of the bridge, hoping we would be able to see the Creek from there for pictures, but there’s so many trees you can’t see much. There were steep trails going down toward the creek, but we didn’t want to attempt it. We stayed in the lot overnight, its pretty large. There were people stopping for pictures, and some of them walked on the highway back to the bridge for pictures. There was a lot of traffic until late.
