06/01/19 - Kenai, AK

Leaving Soldotna, we took the Kenai Spur Highway to Kenai. Their Walmart store allows overnight parking and even have RV lanes on one side of the building. After getting to town, we went to Fedex to pick up a package and then found a beach area. From there, stopped at the the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center  which has a lot of information on Kenai and the surrounding areas. There is an informational film, wildlife displays and cultural exhibits.  Kenai is described as a fishing village and oil boomtown.

The next day we stopped at the visitor center again as the Saturday Market was in their parking lot. It was mostly crafts now, but later will also be farmers market produce. Then we followed the road north past Nikiski to Captain Cook State Park. A majority of this area is industrial. We took a side road to the water and found a beach along with oil derricks and ships.

Captain Cook State Recreation Area has Stormy Lake, the Swanson River and also access to the Cook inlet.

Back in town we did more sightseeing and found Erik Hansen Scout Park and got to see some eagles.
