06/12/19 – Wasilla, AK and Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters

Leaving Cabella's this morning, we stopped at Holiday to fill fuel on our way out of town. Then on to Wasilla. It's only about 30 miles, but I wanted to go to the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters there.

You can click on pictures to enlarge them.

We stopped at Walmart in Wasilla and parked on the outer area of the lot. We took the Jeep to the farmers market. Nothing for vegetables yet, but there were a lot of flowers and crafts.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters is on South Knik-Goosebay Road. They have a gift shop, displays, a video to watch and, of course, dogs. Today there were two puppies there to play with, and also a team of dogs to pull a a dog cart.

We looked for a dump/fill station in town and thought maybe the Fred Meyer store would have one, but no luck. They do have speed bumps on one side though. On an app it showed a gas station; which has a dump but no potable water. Curt didn't think we'd be able to fit in to the area to use it anyway. We don't need one since we just filled in Soldotna, we just thought if there was a free one, we'd use it.

Expensive bananas at Walmart!
