Family time in Alaska

We are currently traveling with our children in Alaska, so posts probably aren't going to get done until they leave.  We went to Denali National Park and were able to see Denali all through our bus ride!

08/09/19 Cabela's, Anchorage

We stopped in Wasilla for a night stay at Walmart and to do laundry at the laundromat there.  Since Wasilla Walmart allows campers an overnight stay, we figured this was a lot cheaper this way, and there is free water and dump once we get to Anchorage.  It looked like some of the campers at Walmart that been there for a while.

From there, heading to Anchorage to meet our kids who are flying in to vacation with us

Cabela's allows campers overnight parking and they were busy this week. Target is next door which is convenient too.

08.04.19 Traveling to Anchorage again

Leaving Valdez and Worthington Glacier, we stopped at the Tazlina River bridge rest area again for a couple of days, and then moved on to the Glenn Highway westward. It is still a busy place, with a few vehicles parked with us every evening.

We spent a night at mm 118, on a hill overlooking a pretty valley. It’s a long double-ended turnout. We had a pickup and trailer park right beside us, so people had to squeeze through between us. Why? I have no idea, there was only a camper behind us. Lots of room in front and behind.  So after about a half hour we moved ahead, away from him. They eventually left, must have needed a driving break.

We stopped at Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Site. There is a small parking lot when you turn in, and then keep going is a larger lot. They also have a campground there.

There were a couple of places we had planned on checking out per The Milepost, but they were filled, or not able for us to get in to. There’s a lot more people in July and August boondocking. We stopped at a pullover near Sutton beside some trees and the river. Not a scenic place, but it has 4 bar Verizon LTE and we’ll head to Palmer on Monday to pick up a package from the post office. It’s a busy pullover place; lots of potty breaks in the trees. (Actually, one was beside us!)

We had quite the surprise on Saturday. Some people we know from our hometown in North Dakota, that were on the fire department with Curt, stopped by. They few up with another couple to visit from friends that live in Palmer. They just happened to be driving by and thought that sure looked like a vehicle we know. Looked at the North Dakota license plate - Small world!
