06/02/19 – Mount Redoubt and Mount Iliamna

We only drove about 20 miles and stopped for the night at a roadside turnout with a view of Mt. Redoubt, Mt. Iliamna and the Cook Inlet.  Mount Iliamna, elevation of 10,016 feet. Mount Redoubt, elevation 10,197 feet. Mount Redoubt had a major eruption in December 1989. The eruptions continued through April 1990, then subsided to steam plumes. Beginning again in early 2009, the mountain was quite active on and off during the spring and summer, shutting down air traffic multiple times due to volcanic activity or the imminent threat of another eruption. Late September of 2009 the mountain was no longer actively perking, and it was declared “all-clear”. (per The Milepost)

I was having fun taking pictures of the eagles.

An earthquake across the water, Redoubt Volcano, magnitude 3.3. Didn't know it.
