Box Wash, boondocking at Wickenburg, AZ

We use freecampsites.net a lot when needing free or cheap camping spots. That’s how we found Box Wash southwest of Wickenburg. It’s free on this BLM (Bureau of Land Management) area. There’s probably room for a dozen or so campers, depending on size. We started out in the main parking area as you come off of the highway, then moved to a more private spot once someone left. The limit is suppose to be 14 days, but there is one camper there that looks to be set up for the winter.

You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge them in a new window.

There is a lot of highway traffic, and traffic into the camping area as there is a trailhead at the end of the road. A female desert tarantula walked across the concrete floor at the informational shelter and wasn’t scared of us at all.

A lot of cactus and rocks. We saw a coyote run past our motorhome, and heard them howling many nights. We set up our hummingbird feeder which had fights for the water.

We had Verizon cell service most of the time; occasionally nothing, but usually 2 bar LTE.  At the informational shelter at the trailhead we could get 2 bar most of the time.
