At the Alaska border we were asked where we were going, for how
long. If we had any guns, fruits, vegetables, fish or wild game, money over
$10,000. If we bought anything other than fuel in Canada.

The road is not so good, and got worse once we crossed the
border in to Alaska. More evidence of fires.
We stopped at the Tok Visitor Center. They weren’t
officially open, but there two ladies there cleaning and getting things set up.
They open on Monday, the 13th. One of them helped us find brochures on some of the
areas and gave us some ideas. She said there’s a pilots festival in Valdez this weekend, so since we’re this close we figured
we’d head to that. I went to a gift shop across the street, lots of fun stuff
to see.
We took highway 1 south toward Valdez and stopped by the
Little Tok River bridge turnout. A gentleman that lives near stopped by and
introduced himself. He showed us some Dall sheep on the hill beside us.
Today we saw swans and Dall sheep.
