05/07/19 Jasper to Prince George, British Columbia

Leaving Jasper, we took highway 16 to Prince George where we were going to fill fuel. The Petro Canada was a smaller station than we expected and kind of old, but we got diesel. It was $1.349/liter (Canadian). We stopped at Walmart and checked to see if we could stay overnight. They’ve got some signs around part of the outside area with no camping signs, but not the whole thing, so we checked with customer service. They had no problem with it, just stay in the unmarked area. There was one other camper, a pickup topper, some vans and cars staying along with us. It was an “interesting” place.

Crossing from Alberta to British Columbia, you change time zones. In British Columbia, they don’t let people stay in rest areas overnight and there’s usually a sign stating you can’t. There are pullouts along the side of the road which people say you should be able to stay in unless there’s a sign stating not to.

Along the route we saw some elk and 4 bears, sometimes running into the ditches and trees so not always able to get pictures. More mountains and some frozen lakes.
