Sugar Beet Harvest 2017

Curt drove a semi for a farmer near Grand Forks for the sugar beet harvest this year again; the same one as last year. Last year he worked 12 days, this year it was only 7. Curt’s shift was 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM; sometimes he got in a little more, sometimes a little less. There was only one day they shut down at noon because of the heat, and we had no rain this year. There were some really windy days though with dust blowing everywhere.

Curt hauled 4,493,978 pounds, or 2246.989 ton.  He was told there should be over 500,000 ton at the Reynolds receiving station three pilers. I found 36 receiving stations on the internet for the American Crystal Sugar Company in east North Dakota/west Minnesota. I don’t know how many piles each one has, but that’s a lot of sugar.

We were able to stay right on the farm. Some electrical hookups had 30 amp, some 50 amp. There is a sewer dump and water to fill up with. Our Verizon service worked well, and we had about 10 TV channels.
