05/12 – 05/13/14: On the road again, climbing West Virginia mountains…and
to an asylum!
Welcome to West Virginia |
Up and down the mountains |
Lots of green, lots of trees. |
Stray Cat Cafe - ewwww. |
River tubing, canoes and kayaks |
Look at that rock hill. |
Going down a mountain, good mileage! Not so much going up.
Eastern Continental Divide, 3295 ft., Allegheny Mountain |
3811 feet |
Beautiful old court house |
Nice summer house |
We watched a short video before the tour. We took the 45-minute tour, which involved the first floor of the main building and some outside for $10 each.
The area is privately owned now. |
They have paranormal tours |
and ghost hunters |
The tour guides dress up as the nurses/doctors would from that time period. |
The area behind the guide is the tuberculosis quarantine center. |
This is the medical facility for surgeries, etc., including the town. |
The renovated area of the facility. |
A room as it would have looked. |
I kept thinking of the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as we toured.
Below are reasons to be admitted. Women had no rights, if her husband wanted to get rid of her, he could admit her for almost any reason at all. Same goes for children.
