Tionesta Recreation Area is run by the Army Corps of Engineers. We took Highway 62 south of Warren, through part of the Allegheny National Forest. The majority of the highway needs work, but there are some areas that are good. You follow the Allegheny River south.
Being an Corps of Engineers park, most take reservations through Recreation.gov. There was nobody in the entrance booth, so I called their office, who told me we either have to call the recreation.gov phone number or go online to their website. I don’t know if they help people when they're in the booth or not. I called the recreation.gov number, who stated that there was an unusually long wait, so we tried the web site with my phone and were able to get on. We unhooked the jeep and drove through the campground, writing down some possible numbers to check on. We were able to reserve our site, and got half off with the Senior Access Pass, for a total of $17.50 a night.
We had Verizon 1x 1-2 bar, and were able to use our hotspot. No TV channels. I believe all the hookups in the park are full hookups; some 30 amp, some 30/50. We took site #92, full hookup with 30/50 amp. When we first got there, we couldn’t get the 50 amp to work, and the camp host had to get ahold of the maintenance department. The second day, our neighbors and us didn’t have power for a couple of hours. We did get ours back, but they didn’t until the next day. Other than that, the park is nice. There’s a lot of campers, generally full on weekends.
