It’s been 6 years since we sold everything and drove away from our house in North Dakota. We’re traveling less miles than we did in the first couple of years, and doing more workamping now. We traveled to all lower 48 states within the first couple of years and decided to slow down a little. Next summer we are planning for Alaska. I still can’t pick one state as a favorite though (the most asked question!) It depends so much on the weather, time of year and what we’re doing. But we can say, we are enjoying this and learning a lot about our country. We are currently in Virginia visiting family.

Bullocksville Campground, Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, Manson, NC
Bullocksville Campground is a campground in the Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, about 20 miles from the Virginia border. We did not make reservations but when we looked on ReserveAmerica, it showed that there were openings, so we took the chance of going there. It isn’t a really big-rig friendly campground. There’s only a couple camp sites we felt would be easier to get in to and there’s a lot of trees. That’s one negative to reserving sites unseen; you have no idea how level they are or the trees nearby.
We picked site 47 which was right by the water and which we thought was most level and easier to maneuver in to. There is 50 amp electric, water by our site, gravel pad. We received Verizon 2-3 bar, 4 TV channels. It cost $51 for three nights with senior discount, $17/night.
There’s a boat ramp, fishing pier, bathhouses, playground, picnic areas, baseball diamond, community building, and a dump station. We didn’t use the dump station as it looked hard to drive through. There was a camp host there which we met.

Rolling View Campground, Falls Lake State Recreation Area, Durham, NC
We stopped at the Falls Lake State Recreation Area Visitor Center on Creedmoor Road to find out which campgrounds had openings that we could fit in to. You can either reserve a site through ReserveAmerica or check out the campground and reserve there. A lot of the North Carolina state parks that have camping were booked for this week because of spring break. They suggested Holly Point Campground or Rolling View Campground, with preference to Rolling View.
You can click on any of the pictures which enlarges them in a new window.
Rolling View has three camping loops; A, B and C. A and B have 30 amp electricity and water, C is nonelectric and no generators can be used. There are 80 campsites with water and electric hookups for RVs and 35 campsites for tents and trailers. The campsites include picnic tables, outdoor grills and tent pads. There are shower houses, playgrounds, picnic shelters, fishing pier, swimming beach, boat ramp, dump station and private marina near by.
We picked site 44 in Loop C in Rolling View Campground. It’s pretty level and only one tree., 30 amp electric and water. We have Verizon cell service 3-4 bars and got 44 antenna TV channels. We stayed six nights for a total of $110 with senior discount, making it $18.33/night.
When we got there Monday, it was 80 degrees! Of course, that changed throughout the week along with rain. There is so much pollen from the pine trees, everything is covered.
