International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque, New Mexico
The International Balloon Fiesta is held yearly in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The RV sites are $30.00 dry camping, and on up for electricity and water up over $100.00. There are some casinos that will let you park there free if they have room. We found a free boondocking spot at San Felipe Casino Hollywood, which is about 20 miles away. They do have hookups for $20.00. This guest guide gives information about the schedules, maps, fees, etc. We talked about going to the Fiesta Park site to see them up close, but found a spot to park nearby to take pictures, along with other people. We were lucky we went the day we did, because the next day it was too windy for them to fly. We got to town about 7:30; the mass ascension was to start at 7:00, but they got started late. They landed pretty much anywhere and had “Chasers” following trying to figure out where they’re going to land and help pack them up. I had assumed they land back at the park, but maybe you land where the wind blows you!
There was an RV show at the Convention Center downtown so we went there. It was just one dealer, pretty small, but interesting to walk through them anyway.
