Lewis and Clark State Park weekend #5

We were originally going to be camp hosts for 4 weeks, but they don’t have a camp host for the last session and we were able to stay longer. This last weekend had no special events, but conservation was the theme at the amphitheater. Friday night was about recycling, Saturday night was endangered animals and Sunday was identifying trees/weeds/bugs. It was Megan’s last session as she’s going back to school. Some of the summer rangers will be doing the rest of the amphitheater series.

Some of the kids (and adults I think) made Fort Flip Flop off of the beach area in some trees.  Someone made decorations. I guess the kids really enjoy it.

It’s getting really dry, grass is turning brown. The nights are getting cooler and some of the trees (ash I think) are changing color. There’s a really pretty bush too that changing colors; I don’t know what it is (below pic).

We noticed the water level is lower too. http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/

There was a missing boater one day and Ryan and Katie took the Park boat out to search their area.  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/ The people had spent a night stranded on a beach and hiked back to the area they were staying at.

At the Lewis and Clark kiosk: http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/

Combining has started in the area. We went to Williston on Wednesday to Walmart and found the Little Free Library in town.

We had some bats decide they liked our awning this week. For some reason, early morning hours, one would crawl inside our awning by our bedroom window (only) and make noises.Curt got up and opened the awning and it would get stuck, and die.  http://followusinourtravels.blogspot.com/

Lewis and Clark State Park weekend #3

We went to Williston Wednesday morning to pick up a few groceries and stop at The Salvation Army (they were selling books 3/$1.) So many oil businesses all over. We’re keeping busy, having fun. Meeting a lot of people, full-timers, vacationers and weekenders and from many states.

This weekend was Christmas in July weekend. The Friends of Lewis and Clark State Park put this on and get sponsors for prizes. Anyone can decorate their camping site and they have prizes for first ($100), second ($75), third ($50) and people’s choice ($75). Curt and I were two of the judges, as we didn't know anyone here or who had won last year. It ended up the same person won as last year, and also got people’s choice. They had a Christmas tree made up with fishing poles, plus other cute things at their site. Some had lots of lights or lots of the blow-up decorations.

There was bingo, tattoos, games and crafts for the kids, hot dog lunch and Christmas cookies. Some bible school students helped with the crafts and games; they were really good with the kids. Cecil Family Farm Pumpkin Patch gave train rides. Oh, Santa Claus came too!
