Lewis & Clark State Park - camp hosting week 1

We’re camp hosts at Lewis & Clark State Park east of Williston, North Dakota for our first session this year. We were here last year for one session also.

The park has 101 campsites and 2 cabins. There is a marina with 40 slip rentals, concession store (park office), and canoe and kayak rentals. The park was full Memorial Day weekend.

The park interpreter, Juliet, had events at the amphitheater Friday and Saturday nights regarding Lewis and Clark, and different types of service for Memorial Day. There is also a Dakota Explorer program on Sunday mornings.

We sell firewood, clean up litter and the fire pits, check the daily roster and take off old tags from the site posts, check comfort station and vault toilets, help interpreter, with treat truck and help campers with concerns.

Traveling “Home”

How do you define home?  I guess as long as my dad is still alive, Dickinson will still be “home”.  But now that we’ve been full time in our coach for 5 years, home is pretty much wherever we are.  We’re not full time camping as some describe it. We may park in campgrounds, but we don’t carry as much around as we did when we did weekend camping. Then you’d go home and unload for an hour and clean. What we have with is what we’ve got.

After leaving our daughter’s place, we headed to Dickinson. My dad moved into a retirement home and two of my brothers and I are going through the house to pack it up and get it ready for sale.

We stopped at Sweet Briar Recreation Area for some free camping for a couple of nights; one of our favorite boondocking spots.

And stayed at a friend’s place at Dickinson.

We were in Dickinson for about a week, and then headed to Lewis & Clark State Park for our first camp hosting gig for the summer. We took highway 85 up to Williston and then east on Highway 1804 to the Park. Highway 1804 is under construction.

Family time in Virginia and Minnesota

We were in Virginia at our sons and daughter-in-law’s and spent time building a shed and adding a concrete spot for a motorcycle. (Curt misses his construction; we usually remodel while there).

We also went sightseeing in historic Occoquan

and Old Town Alexandria. We also went to Washington, DC; there’s a separate blog post on that.

In Minnesota at our daughter and son-in-law’s and granddaughters, Curt worked on the motorhome and I got in some flower and yard time (miss my flowers); and, of course, granddaughter time! The girls are involved in their church children’s choir and they sang one Sunday and did readings. Calissa loves swimming and started lessons again. Alaina doesn’t like water, but she runs fast and is in a Healthy Kids race every Sunday for 5 weeks. Both of the girls like reading and computers.
