Fixing Windows

The window area by the driver consists of three windows together. Two of them were foggy.  If you wait too long to fix them, they can become etched and then you have to replace the window. Now we’ve noticed that being in the desert, they don’t seem as bad as they used to. But, that will only be temporary as we’re not staying in this area. Curt worked on our bathroom window when we were in North Dakota last summer with C. R. Laurence Company products. While he wasn’t able to fix it as it was too far gone, he did learn a lot. He debated about doing these himself, but being there were three together, we decided on having it done by Havasu Auto Glass while we (and they) were in Quartzsite.

He was able to watch and talk to them while they were doing it, and he learned from them (and took a ton of pictures).

They had trouble getting the window back in and we didn't notice until after we were gone and set up for the night, putting our shades back up, that it wasn’t in straight. There’s no way to straighten it without taking the window back out.

Curt also had to do some touchup painting on the frame as when she loosened/tightened them her drill would come off and hit the frame and the window multiple times.

We also had a rock chip in our front window, so we had that fixed by Windshield Magic next door. You can barely tell there was a chip.

Bouse, AZ MuzzleLoaders Rendezvous

I came across an advertisement for the Bouse Hills Muzzleloaders Rendezvous being held for four days in Bouse, AZ. This is put on by the Bouse Hills Muzzle Loaders group in Bouse, AZ. We thought it could be interesting, and as far as we knew, free.  So on the morning of the 19th we took off to the little town of Bouse, AZ.

Once we got to town, we didn’t know which direction we were supposed to go for the event, so we stopped at the Roadrunner Market II and asked. Just a couple miles out of town, at the La Paz Shooting Range, after crossing the railroad tracks. There were RVs parked there, other vehicles, displays, vendors and tepees. Some people were dressed in the 1800s era clothing.

It didn't sound like there was a time schedule of when the events happened, just as they got the people together with a scorekeeper. We were there for a couple of hours.

Split Rail RV Park, Quartzsite, AZ

Split Rail RV Park is a Passport America participating park for $12.50 a night with full hookups, minimum stay of two nights and maximum of seven. It has 30 amp hookups and it worked out good. We didn’t have to worry about heat or air conditioning.

We were toward the back of the park, #28, lots of room. We got 3 TV channels (had 20 in the desert) and Verizon 4G 3 bar cell service. They have free internet; it’s not real fast where we’re at, but it works. There is an office, laundry, restrooms, recreation room and library. The laundry has 3 washers and 3 dryers for $1 each.

Watching a cattle auction sale in the desert?

My brother and nephew (and their family) raise Gelbvieh cattle, and have a cattle auction every year in February in North Dakota. The last couple of years they’ve had it livestreaming on the internet and we’ve been able to watch it. They video the cattle for sale, send out sale catalogs and people are able to buy over the telephone or internet or at the ranch. They do have a steel building that is set up that day as their auction barn and anyone is able to come for the sale and lunch. Now, February in North Dakota can be almost any temperature. A week before the sale was a blizzard and a couple of days before that they had 40’s. Lucky they had a nice day, in the 20’s only, but no storm. Both Curt and I grew up on farms and we showed cattle in 4-H and FFA, and helped my dad show cattle.
