Port Orford, and a Blue Whale on the Beach

We heard about a blue whale did had died and washed up on the Oregon beach about 25 miles from our campground, so we thought we'd take a drive and see what we can see. Volunteers have been stripping the carcass and and the skeleton will be taken to the Oregon State University Marine Mammal Institute. It is very unusual to have a blue whale in this area.

On the way back we stopped at Port Orford Heads State Park and Battle Rock Park at Port Orford. Port Orford Lifeboat Station had a run by the Coast Guard from 1934 to 1970. There is a museum which was closed. We did the hiking trails and geocaches there. Battle Rock Park has a Visitor's Center and information boards. Neither one of these places would have room for RV parking. We were in our jeep. So we stopped at the port and saw some of the boats.
