Texas: 02/18/2014

Fort Stockton, Texas
The largest roadrunner in the world

 Wind turbines

Oil country

I think this is the smallest Pilot station I've seen

Oil pumper graveyard

Lots of small towns along this highway with a history of oil boomtowns back when, but no more

A tribute to a trooper killed in the line of duty. There was a geocache here.

 Water is a precious commodity

A "gate guard" on the left. Some oil companies in the south hire workcampers to open/close locked gates at well sites.

I guess people don't like to take old buildings down.

Right, vineyard?

Lots of cactus

Cattle country, and the big fences and gates

Lots of dead animals on the road - deer, raccoon and tuns of skunks

Brownwood, TX, our stop for the night
